Intel has launched a smartphone for the
African market called the Yolo. It will be available from Safaricom bundled for
$125 which includes 500MB of free data. Considering the price, the specs are
about what you might expect. A 3.5 inch screen with a 320 x 480 resolution.
Under the hood is a single-core 1.2GHz Atom processor and the handset offers
HSPA+ connectivity. 512MB of RAM is on board and 4GB of native storage can be
expanded by using the 32GB capacity
microSD slot. The 5MP camera on back can snap 7 pictures in one second
and captures video at 1080p. A 1500mAh battery powers the phone and Android
4.0.4 is installed out of the box. The phone's dimensions are 10.5 x 61 x
12.6mm and the phone weighs in at 132g.
Intel says that the device offers fast web
browsing, strong multimedia capabilities and great Android app experience. The
Yolo actually outperformed the original Samsung GALAXY Note on the AnTuTu
benchmark site. This could just be the beginning of Intel's major push into
mobile and it could be an interesting ride.
