Acer officially unveils the stylish Liquid E1 mid-ranger

We could have made some nice jokes or puns with the name of the new Android smartphone introduced Thursday by Lenovo. With the Acer Liquid E1 being unveiled, we could have said that the handset is all washed up, or is a drop in the bucket, or used some other connotation to liquid. But, no, we decided not to do that with this model. Instead, it is all about the specs which might have wowed the crowd back in 2010, but now three years later, seem dated.

The Acer Liquid E1 sports a 4.5 inch screen which sounds like the device is off to a great start, but the qHD resolution is certainly underwhelming, perhaps rivaling the decision by Samsung to use WVGA resolution on the Samsung Galaxy S II. Throw in a dual-core 1GHz processor and add 1GB of RAM and 4GB of native storage inside, a 5MP rear-facing camera and a .3MP front-facing shooter and have it all powered by a 1760mAh battery, and you can see that this device is not made to play in the same sandbox as the big kids play in. Android 4.1.1 is pre-installed which means the phone will serve up Project Butter and Google Now.

If Acer's intention with the Acer Liquid E1 was to make the model so affordable that its buyers can remain (here it comes) liquid, then the OEM has done its job. But we can't help to think that buyers could probably pick up a higher spec'd model without shelling out much more than what this phone will cost. Of course, it would help to know the pricing for the model, but Acer did not disclose it.
